“A common thread of exceptional care”

As a former patient, the task of redesigning Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital held great meaning to me. I wanted the design to reflect how I felt when I was a patient, at the same time simplify the experience to get the parents the information they need quickly. During an exploratory tour of the new hospital, I learned that Le Bonheur was started by the Le Bonheur Club, a local sewing circle. Threading had been used many times before, but knowing about the sewing circle gave new weight to the design element. The design that followed uses subtle threading throughout that helps to add some dimension to the site, but doesn’t get in the way of the content.

Let the content speak for itself.
With this new design, I wanted to remove any visual element that didn’t fit. Other than the header or the footer, the site should remain mostly white. This allows for the content to speak for itself and not but buried by branding.

Allow for photos room to project rather than enhance
Inspired by Facebook’s Cover Photo the new LeBonheur.org uses large images to reflect the importance of care given at the hospital. Instead of small images that would simply enhance the copy, I wanted larger photos to help a parent visualize the experience.

Where Every Child Matters
The final design was a collaborative effort between several folks who are as passionate of the mission of Le Bonehur as I am. I believe it is a true reflection of a great hospital.
